Remember When I Saw You

Remember When I Saw You

My dearest I have looked at you,

When I lifted you up to heaven,

You held out your hands to me.

You were rewarded

When heroes perished,

 In that bloody act

Where I was free in full.

I have watched as time goes by,

They have forgotten your importance.

And we pass under you until,

As if nothing mattered, And in school,

Nor your honor the children sing,

 They seem to have forgotten,

Your loves and teachings.

For thy breast and heart, It only offers trust,

In saying these three words, OH! dear beloved.

Peace says the white of thy soul,

 Love and blood shed

Is the red of thy bowels,

And love to God for ever and ever,

Gives the blue of your gaze.

Your heart carries the book

That gives breath to my life,

 And those beautiful scriptures

Strong as the primitive palm branch.

The olive tree, the arrows, Are beautiful relics.

But what matters most to me, Is the honor of your ascent.

I would not like to see you descend,

 As everything that ascends does.

I would like to see you shine,

 Like wood of good luster.

I'd like this last verse here to last forever,

Even if no one takes you into account,

Because of your height we are happy.
